Safety Underground Civils

  • This accreditation ensures that individuals working in the civils aspects of network construction and maintenance are suitably trained and understand the dangers of working in this environment. This accreditation is particularly aimed at those individuals who undertake work within the telecoms industry.

  • This accreditation provides basic knowledge regarding legislation and dangers associated with safe working in a utility construction environment. Learners are provided with the knowledge to understand the hazards and potential risks associated with civils works in utilities environments. This accreditation is particularly aimed at those individuals who undertake work in a telecommunications (or similar utility/construction) environment. It also enables learners to gain knowledge of compliance with Health and Safety legislation. This accreditation tests learners’ knowledge and understanding of dangers associated with these works and the safety precautions required while working in civils. This accreditation ensures that individuals working in the civils aspects of network construction and maintenance are suitably trained and understand the dangers of working in this environment. To comply with legislation, at least one person on site must also hold the appropriate Street Works Card in line with the requirements of New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA)1991. This accreditation comprises of 3 modules.

Course Description

  • Know relevant health and safety legislation and industry good practice. when working in a civils works environment.

  • Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work.

  • Know the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace.

  • Know how to avoid dangers of underground services.

  • Know the importance of working in a confined space.

  • Know the importance of working safely at height in the workplace.

  • Know the importance of working around plant, tools and equipment safely.

  • Understand how to interpret utility drawings.

  • Know risks to health when working onsite.

  • Know how to maintain a safe and secure working environment.

  • Module 1: Safe Working in Civils

  • Module 2 Gas Testing

  • Module 3 Cover Lifting

Note

Learners who have achieved SA002 Underground Safety only need to complete Module 1 of this accreditation. Learners who do not hold a SA002 Underground Safety are required to complete all 3 modules.

This course requires the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to attend:

  • Hard hat

  • High vis

  • Laced up safety boots

  • Gloves

  • Safety glasses
